A Federal Trade Comission (FTC), órgão antitruste dos EUA, se prepara para lançar uma investigação contra supostas práticas anticompetitivas da divisão de nuvem da Microsoft.
De acordo com o Financial Times, o órgão está examinando denúncias de que a Microsoft estaria abusando da sua força no mercado de softwares de produtividade para impor termos de licenciamento punitivos que impedem clientes de transferirem dados armazenados nos serviços Azure para plataformas de cloud computing concorrentes.
Entre as medidas anticompetitivas que a Microsoft adota para prejudicar a concorrência, estaria o aumento da taxa de assinatura para quem migra parte dos dados para outras nuvens, além da cobrança de multas de rescisão. Outro fator seria a incompatibilidade dos produtos Office 365 com nuvens rivais.

A FTC acabou derrotada no processo, e a Microsoft conseguiu concluir o negócio e, desde o fim de 2023, é a dona de estúdios de games como Call of Duty, Warcraft e mais.
