Uber e Lyft têm bloqueado motoristas na cidade de Nova York para evitar custos elevados com pagamentos, segundo uma matéria da Bloomberg.
Esses bloqueios resultam em mensagens como “não é possível ficar online” ou instruções para ir a áreas mais movimentadas, podendo durar minutos ou horas.
A estratégia visa apresentar os motoristas como mais ocupados do que eles realmente estão, ajudando as empresas a economizar até US$ 30 milhões ao influenciar a fórmula de salário mínimo da cidade.
Esses bloqueios, que ocorrem sem aviso, têm causado dificuldades financeiras para muitos motoristas, que lutam para sustentar suas famílias. A Uber afirmou que os bloqueios são necessários devido às regras da Comissão de Táxis e Limusines (TLC) de Nova York, descrevendo a cobertura da Bloomberg sobre o assunto como imprecisa.
A fórmula de pagamento do TLC não é fixa e leva em conta fatores como tempo de viagem e o percentual de tempo em que os motoristas têm passageiros.

Atualmente, a taxa de utilização é de 58%, o que significa que, em média, 58 minutos de cada 100 são passados com passageiros. Aumento nessa taxa exigiria um aumento nos pagamentos aos motoristas, o que as empresas tentam evitar.
Bloqueios impactam negativamente na situação financeira dos motoristas
Os motoristas não são pagos pelo tempo em que ficam bloqueados, resultando em perda de renda.
Bloqueios frequentes têm sido observados em vários horários e afetaram mais de 800 motoristas, especialmente durante horários de pico, quando as tarifas aumentam devido à menor oferta de motoristas disponíveis.
Muitos motoristas relataram dificuldades financeiras, atrasos em pagamentos de contas e estresse.
Embora a Uber e a Lyft tenham indicado que estão limitadas pelas regras do TLC, a investigação sugere que essas empresas estavam, na verdade, implementando bloqueios para evitar um aumento nas tarifas de pagamento.
Recentemente, os bloqueios parecem ter terminado após um acordo privado entre as empresas e as autoridades, mas críticos afirmam que isso é um exemplo de conluio para inflar artificialmente as taxas de utilização antes da revisão anual.
