Um terremoto de magnitude 6,4 atingiu o Chile na noite de sexta-feira (13) , informou o Centro Sismológico Euro-Mediterrâneo (EMSC, na sigla em inglês). Testemunhas ouvidas pela agência de notícias Reuters (via G1 ) disseram ter sentido os tremores em Santiago, capital e maior cidade do país.
Até a publicação desta nota, não havia informações sobre estragos e feridos por conta do terremoto. E as autoridades tinham descartado risco de tsunami .
O epicentro do tremor foi a aproximadamente 200 quilômetros de Santiago , segundo o EMSC. O terremoto ocorreu a 111 quilômetros de profundidade , numa região montanhosa da Cordilheira dos Andes , de acordo com dados da agência europeia. Outras duas cidades com mais de 100 mil habitantes ficam na região afetada.

Outro terremoto – este de magnitude 7,3 – atingiu o norte do país em julho deste ano. Foi aquele terremoto sentido em São Paulo (SP) . Assim como no tremor ocorrido na sexta, ninguém se feriu neste.
