As aranhas costumam figurar na lista de animais que a maioria das pessoas têm medo. Essas pequenas criaturas de oito patas, porém, podem ser importantes aliadas no tratamento da leucemia. É o que indica uma pesquisa realizada aqui no Brasil.
Cientistas do Instituto Butantan e da Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Albert Einstein descobriram que o veneno de uma espécie de caranguejeira (chamada Vitalius wacketi ) pode eliminar células cancerígenas.
Antes que as pessoas saiam por aí caçando caranguejeiras pelo litoral de São Paulo, é importante destacar que as experiências foram feitas isolando um componente desse veneno. Ou seja, tomar uma picada não vai ajudar em nada no tratamento contra esse tipo de câncer.
Os pesquisadores do Butantan sintetizaram a substância em laboratório para obter a molécula de poliamina – um tipo de toxina abundante no veneno da Vitalius wacketi . Em seguida, ela foi purificada pelo grupo do Einstein para remover possíveis contaminações e potencializar seus efeitos. Os testes mostraram que essa molécula foi capaz de matar células de leucemia.

Os pesquisadores estão bastante animados com essa descoberta;
Isso por que a ação do composto foi mais suave em relação aos tratamentos que existem atualmente;
Segundo o UOL , os especialistas afirmam que a molécula eliminou as células tumorais por apoptose, espécie de morte celular programada;
É como se fosse uma morte mais limpa, diferentemente da quimioterapia, por exemplo, que mata essas células por necrose;
A notícia, portanto, é muito boa;
Os pesquisadores, no entanto, ainda pregam cautela;
Explicam que os testes forem bem-sucedidos apenas em ambiente laboratorial e em pequena escala;
São necessários agora novos estudos para confirmar essa hipótese em seres humanos e na vida real;
Além disso, eles querem ampliar as experiências para além da leucemia – farão testes também em células do câncer de pulmão e de ossos;
Eles pretendem ainda submeter o composto a uma análise junto a células saudáveis para garantir que a molécula não é tóxica.
