Um peixe-remo (também conhecido como “Peixe do fim do mundo”) foi encontrado morto na Grandview Beach, praia da Califórnia (EUA), no início de novembro. O animal é sinal de mau-presságio em algumas culturas e seus avistamentos costumam ser raros. No entanto, já é o terceiro da espécie encontrado em três meses só no Estado.
O Peixe do fim do mundo da vez mede entre 2,7 metros e três metros de comprimento e foi avistado pela candidata a PhD em Oceanografia na Scripps Institution of Oceanography Alison Laferriere.

Avistamentos do Peixe do fim do mundo estão aumentando Antes deste mês, um peixe-remo foi encontrado degradado em setembro, ao longo de Huntington Beach, e outro de 37 metros foi visto encalhado em San Diego em agosto. Ambos os locais estão localizados no Estado da Califórnia.
Há um problema: os avistamentos do animal costumam ser raros. Para se ter uma ideia, 21 deles apareceram na costa da Califórnia desde 1901, quando começaram os registros. Ou seja, três em pouco mais de três meses é excepcional.
O que é o Peixe do fim do mundo
Segundo o IFLScience , o peixe-remo é o maior peixe ósseo conhecido, podendo atingir cerca de oito metros de comprimento;
Os avistamentos são raros porque a espécie vive na zona crepuscular do oceano, a profundidades de entre 200 metros e mil metros. Ou seja, quando eles são vistos, é sempre intrigante;
Uma lenda japonesa considera o avistamento do Peixe do fim do mundo um presságio de terremotos, tsunamis ou outros eventos ruins;
Por mais que a tradição fale alto, um estudo de 2019 provou que isso não é exatamente verdade: a pesquisa analisou a relação entre 336 avistamentos com 221 terremotos no Japão. Apenas um dos eventos se correlacionou.

Por que houve aumento nos avistamentos? Pesquisadores da Scripps Institution of Oceanography acreditam que o aumento nos avistamentos do peixe-remo pode ser significativo. Eles analisaram amostras dos exemplares encalhados e explicaram que pode ter a ver com a mudança nas condições do oceano, ou, ainda, com o aumento no número de peixes dessa espécie na costa californiana.
Outros estudiosos atribuem o aumento a mudanças mais amplas, como os ciclos do El Niño e La Niña. No entanto, no caso do animal encontrado em novembro, eles acreditam que tem a ver com mais de uma variável. A equipe vai continuar analisando as amostras para pontuar com mais precisão esse novo fenômeno.
