A Waymo, que oferece serviços de robotaxi sem motoristas de segurança desde 2020, realiza cerca de 150 mil viagens semanais em cidades como São Francisco, Los Angeles e Phoenix.
A empresa aposta em criar familiaridade com os passageiros, mantendo assentos voltados para a frente, como em táxis tradicionais, para que os usuários vejam para onde o carro está indo. No entanto, apesar do crescimento, o número de viagens realizadas por empresas de robotáxi ainda é pequeno comparado a gigantes como a Uber.
A Zoox, subsidiária da Amazon, adota uma abordagem diferente, com veículos autônomos bidirecionais, sem volante ou telas, e foca em proporcionar uma experiência de passeio imersiva. Além disso, ambas as empresas utilizam operadores humanos para fornecer assistência remota em situações imprevistas.

Outras empresas como a Cruise, da General Motors, têm enfrentado desafios, como a perda de sua licença de operação na Califórnia após um incidente envolvendo um pedestre.
A Cruise agora se concentra em melhorar a segurança e a assistência remota, enquanto planeja retomar suas operações com motoristas de segurança em algumas cidades.
Os robotáxis estão crescendo – mas há obstáculos
O mercado global de robotaxis está em expansão, com empresas testando seus veículos em cidades dos EUA, China e outros países.
Na China, a gigante AutoX lidera o mercado, com uma frota de veículos autônomos operando em várias cidades, enquanto a Apollo Go, da Baidu, também oferece serviços de robotaxi a preços baixos.
Apesar de avanços em alguns países, a aceitação do público ainda é um grande obstáculo.
Muitas pessoas continuam relutantes em usar veículos autônomos, com questões de segurança sendo uma das maiores preocupações.
As empresas do setor, incluindo a Waymo, Zoox e Cruise, continuam a desenvolver suas tecnologias e estratégias para conquistar a confiança dos passageiros.
Com novos concorrentes entrando no mercado, como a Tesla, que planeja lançar seu próprio robotáxi em 2026, o campo de batalha para conquistar a confiança dos consumidores promete ser desafiador.
As regulamentações também precisam evoluir para permitir uma adoção em larga escala, e pode levar anos até que os robotáxis se tornem uma opção comum para os passageiros.
