Desde outubro de 2024, a República Democrática do Congo enfrenta um surto de uma doença ainda não identificada, que já causou 31 mortes entre os 406 casos registrados, de acordo com a Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS).
A maioria das vítimas são crianças menores de cinco anos, e os sintomas incluem febre, tosse, fadiga e coriza. Equipes da OMS estão no local para investigar a causa e conter a disseminação da doença.
O que se sabe sobre o surto no Congo?
O surto é localizado, mas grave: os casos estão concentrados na zona de saúde de Panzi, na província de Kwango. Mulheres e crianças representam a maior parte das vítimas.Sintomas preocupantes: febre, tosse e fadiga são comuns, mas casos graves incluem dificuldade para respirar e desnutrição. Os testes descartaram doenças como sarampo e Covid-19.Esforços de contenção: a OMS enviou especialistas para reforçar a vigilância, investigar as causas e implementar medidas de conscientização e prevenção na região. Onde o surto está concentrado e quem são os mais afetados? Os casos foram registrados em nove áreas de saúde da zona de Panzi, com destaque para Tsakala Panzi, Makitapanzi e Kanzangi, que somam 95,8% das ocorrências, segundo a CNN.

A faixa etária mais afetada é de crianças menores de cinco anos, que representam 53% dos casos. Além disso, 59,9% dos infectados são mulheres, e as comunidades locais foram o epicentro da maioria das mortes.

Apesar do risco de disseminação dentro do Congo ser moderado, a proximidade com a fronteira de Angola preocupa as autoridades. A OMS reforça a importância de monitoramento constante para evitar que o surto atinja níveis regionais ou globais.
